In this case, all carriers excited to the conduction band almost instantaneously decay to shallow donor levels and recombine
with acceptor states emitting photons corresponding
to DAP recombination.
In bulk ZnSe, IPDs have been identified by
optical detection of magnetic resonance [ODMR]studies
and electron paramagnetic resonance [EPR]studies and confirmed
to be zinc vacancies, zinc interstitials, and Frenkel
pairs involving zinc vacancies and zinc interstitials of varying
separation in the lattice. There have also been few reports
suggesting the presence of Se vacancies in ZnSe, though theoretically Laks et al.concluded that due to a high formation energy of Se vacancies, they did not play a significant
role in ZnSe.
